Tallahassee Arson Defense Attorney

Experienced Defense Against Arson Charges

If you have been charged with arson, it’s extremely important to contact an experienced attorney right away.  Arson is a first-degree felony offense, and a conviction will undoubtedly result in severe penalties.  With your rights and freedom on the line, nothing is more important than retaining the aggressive defense representation you need to overcome your charges and win your case.

Arson Laws & Penalties

Arson is the criminal act of willfully and intentionally causing damage to a property, building, or structure by means of fire or explosion.  However, the penalties for arson depend on the circumstances surrounding the crime. For instance:

  • Committing arson in a building, structure, or dwelling where the offender knew or had reasonable cause to believe people would be inside the building, is first-degree felony offense, punishable by 30 years in prison (possibly life in prison) and up to $10,000 in fines.
  • Committing arson in a building or structure is a second-degree felony offense, punishable by 15 years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines.
  • Any person who perpetrates arson and as a result causes bodily harm to another person, whether intentionally or unintentionally, will be charged with a first-degree misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in prison and up to $1,000 in fines.
  • Any person who perpetrates arson and as a result causes great bodily harm, permanent disability, or permanent disfigurement to another person, whether intentionally or unintentionally, will be charged with a second degree felony, punishable by up to 15 years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
